When someone dear to you passes away, it can be challenging to know where to begin. Rest assured, our team is here to help you navigate through the practicalities with care and sensitivity. We will provide you with clear guidance on the necessary steps to take, ensuring that you can focus on grieving and honoring your loved one’s memory.

STAGE 1: OBTAINING A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE OF CAUSE OF DEATH

Promptly following the passing of an individual, it is advised to engage a medical professional. The medical professional will provide a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death and offer guidance to address any queries you may have. Simultaneously, you will need to select a reputable funeral director and make arrangements for the deceased to be respectfully collected and transferred to their care.

TAGE 2: REGISTERING THE DEATH

It is essential to complete the registration of the death in the country where your loved one passed away. Locate the appropriate register office in the jurisdiction of the death and schedule an appointment. While attending, ensure to bring the necessary documents such as the deceased’s passport and Birth Certificate.

STAGE 3: CONTACTING YOUR CHOSEN FUNERAL DIRECTOR

You are encouraged to reach out to your chosen funeral director at the earliest stage, enabling them to prepare for the transfer of your loved one to their care. If you have not already done so, please make contact with your funeral director without delay to receive guidance on the subsequent steps. During the funeral arrangement process, you will need to consider various elements, including the type of funeral service, selection of a coffin, travel arrangements, and other specifics such as floral arrangements and readings.

STAGE 4: ADDRESSING THE DECEASED’S ESTATE

In the event that your loved one left a will, the designated ‘executor’ will handle the estate matters. Alternatively, if there is no will, a family member will be appointed as an ‘administrator’ to fulfill this responsibility. Within the initial two weeks, it is crucial to inform Tell Us Once about the passing. They will then communicate with relevant authorities and government services regarding the loss, alleviating the need for separate notifications to each authority. Additionally, there may be a need to address the deceased’s social media accounts during this stage.
